It was organized by a group of of US-based Tibetan rug importers in an effort to give back to the wonderful people of Nepal.

After years of planning, negotiation and organization, construction of a modern 15-bed teaching hospital is underway. A combination of generous contributions, volunteer service and a donation of land through the Public Health Concern Trust (PHECT) in Nepal is making it possible.

The director and administrator of the Nepal Cleft & Burn Center is Dr. Shankar Rai. A native of the 'hill country' of Eastern Nepal, Dr. Rai is an internationally recognized reconstructive surgeon.
